Repost: The Time I Experimented With Colour

I've committed one of the worst blogging sins... I've added an embedded media file to this blog playing 'Everything' by LifeHouse.

Sorry but it's an awesome tune, and I think you should stay and listen to the end as you read. The media player is bottom of the left column if you simply must turn it off.

I'm experimenting with some colour on this blog too, and I've tidied up the links to other blogs. It's hard to decide who to link from to when you run 2 blogs but I've now decided to go with 'blogs I read regularly' to 'blogs that I check out every now and then'.

In other news, the date is set, I'm getting married in October, in Hawaii, to my lovely and delectable sweetheart, and she gets me... Overall I think I came off better and she would agree. I've been working on our webpage, it's not public, however, if you are a real-world friend and want the link, email me.

Finally I've been working on another controversial article, my take on the UK Housing situation. I'm in the middle of research but should be ready to post the first part soon... keep watching.

Repost: Where Are Your Accusers?

"...as I enter in to the presence of God and into worship, this is when Satan tries his best to dig up the dirt and do a bit of mud-slinging."

"All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!" Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, "Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?"
"No, Lord," she said.
And Jesus said, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more." - John 8:3-11 NLT
All of us can admit to sinning - doing shameful or selfish things - and we can all receive forgiveness from Jesus or the person we offended, and be redeemed. However, in my experience, it doesn't always end there. Today I stood in Church and whilst I was worshipping I found images brought to mind of all sorts of stupid embarrassing stuff I've done over the years. Are these just random blurbs from the subconscious part of my brain? Or is there something more sinister at work?

The Bible says that as Christians we have an enemy, called Satan. Taken from the Hebrew, "Satan" literally means 'Adversary' or 'Accuser'.

Satan - Wikipedia

I believe that just as it was with Job, Satan stands before God and accuses us as believers. Funnily enough, for me, it usually happens at a time when I'm feeling good or trying to focus on God. It seems that as I enter in to the presence of God and into worship, this is when Satan tries his best to dig up the dirt and do a bit of mud-slinging.

For a time it works, both God and Satan know what's buried in my backyard. I am convinced that the images or thoughts of my worst moments that come right out of the blue, are Satans attempts to convince both me and God that I am not worthy of his grace, or his love. (It's not always Satan either, there are plenty of people in my life to remind me of the wrongs I've done).

It is then that Jesus, our friend and counselor, the advocate and mediator, speaks. He rebukes Satan, who is already condemned. As we lift our heads, Jesus asks "Where are your accusers?"

Repost: Israel: Not The Only Guilty Party

"There, one of them shot Danny in front of Einat so that his death would be the last sight she would ever see. Then he smashed my little girl's skull in against a rock with his rifle butt."

It's time things were put in perspective about Hezbollah. I've hinted already that I'm not in favour of this organisation as just as I am not in favour of Israel's bombing of civilians.

I was directed through Guido Fawkes' blog to an excellent post by Harold Evans on The Guardians Comment is Free.

I admire George Galloway, he's a great speaker and amazing to watch in a debate, however not everything he says is easy to agree with. Galloway and others in the Stop the War Coalition (STWC) march on Saturday 5th August 2006, have been calling for the release of an unrepentant terrorist named Samir Kuntar.

Would it be a good idea to release him? Smadar Haran, an Israeli woman, shares her testimony of her encounter with Kuntar on April 22nd 1979:

"It had been a peaceful Sabbath day. My husband Danny and I had picnicked with our little girls, Einat, 4, and Yael, 2, on the beach not far from our home in Naharyia, a city on the northern coast of Israel. Around midnight, we were asleep in our apartment when four terrorists from Lebanon landed in a rubber boat on the beach two blocks away.

"Gunfire and exploding grenades awakened us. Desperately we sought to hide. Danny helped our neighbour climb into a crawl space above our bedroom. I went in behind her with Yael in my arms. Then Danny grabbed Einat and was dashing out of the front door when the terrorists came crashing in. They held Danny and Einat while they searched for me and Yael.

"I will never forget the joy and the hatred in their voices as they swaggered about hunting for us, firing their guns and throwing grenades. I knew that if Yael cried out, the terrorists would toss a grenade into the crawl space, so I kept my hand over her mouth. As I lay there, I remembered my mother telling me how she had hidden from the Nazis during the Holocaust.

"The terrorists took Danny and Einat down to the beach. There, one of them shot Danny in front of Einat so that his death would be the last sight she would ever see. Then he smashed my little girl's skull in against a rock with his rifle butt. That terrorist was Samir Kuntar. By the time we were rescued from the crawl space hours later, Yael, too, was dead. In trying to save all our lives I had smothered her" - Original source: Washington Post

Should any human being be locked up indefinitely without trial? No. Should any accused be presumed guilty and charged without evidence? No. However, this man is clearly proven to be a real and recognised terrorist. He is reported to not show any signs of remorse, so I would definitely say that it's beneficial that he is locked up.

This does not mean I believe he should be given inhumane treatment. The difference between a state and a terrorist organisation is that the state believes in humanity, sanctity of life and respectful treatment of all people, friends and enemies, free and imprisoned.

Is Hezbollah an organisation of freedom fighters? or are they an organisation of terrorists, simply manipulating and taking advantage of victims of Israeli terrorism? There are no innocents in the Middle East conflict, apart from the ones that are killed daily by both sides.

Repost: Cleared Terror Suspects

The Daily Express reported yesterday that Mohammed Abdul Kahar (the cleared suspect shot in a terror raid last month) has been questioned over child-pornography allegations.

"Mohammed Abdul Kahar (right) - wounded in the shoulder as armed officers stormed his home - was arrested when he went to a police station with his solicitor...

...Kahar, 23, was interviewed over images allegedly found on a computer at his house in Forest Gate, east London, in June...

...The brothers were arrested after a tip-off that a cyanide bomb was stored in their house. No trace was found and the men were released without charge...

...They had planned to sue the Metropolitan Police and insisted that the shooting was either deliberate or reckless." - The Daily Express

This scenario should seem familiar because it was only April when another innocent terror suspect, Jean Charles De Menezes was cleared of rape allegations.

"DETECTIVES are investigating claims that Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes carried out a rape three years ago...

...A woman has come forward claiming the electrician, who was mistakenly shot dead by anti-terror police at Stockwell tube station last July, attacked her in London...

...The de Menezes solicitor Harriet Wistrich said the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which is handling the probe into the 27-year-old's shooting, asked her several weeks ago whether a DNA sample could be taken for the rape investigation...

..."I pointed out that a sample could not be taken without the consent of the family or by order of the Court"...

...A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said today: "The victim of a rape in the West End of London more than three years ago contacted us earlier this year and provided the name of an alleged suspect." - The Sun

I find it interesting that the Metropolitan Police were keen to release details of alleged sexual offences for both of these victims of over-zealous terror law enforcement. It's also interesting that both victims/families had raised a media storm, and were or are considering suing and making claims against the Met.

Is this a new PR damage limitation procedure? I wonder how long it will be before we see a quiet press release clearing Kahar of these charges?

Repost: Response to 'Following the Israel-Lebanon Crisis'

Teaching children to burn flags, paint bombs, or kill indiscriminately without ethical and moral objectives is a spiritual abuse. It removes the meaning and purpose behind the conflict and replaces it with hate and suffering.

Last week I posted briefly on the Israeli-Lebanon crisis and my views. You can read it here.

I received a couple of comments from Kath, who is one of the friends I've never met, author of In Training. Kath is an American engaged to a British Royal Marine, so she knows what its like to be in a relationship in 2 different countries, as I am. We don't share many of the same views on war or politics, but I read her blog and find it interesting what she has to say, occasionally finding some common ground! It's always good to hear a viewpoint different from what you believe so I never take offence, and I'm pretty certain Kath doesn't either. The comment that Kath made is as a follows:

"I wonder if you'd heard the actual background of those photographs with children. Might want to check out this site to get the story: http://www.sandmonkey.org/2006/07/18/the-fucked-up-pictures-explained

Also, I find it interesting that you are going after Israel for what you call "brainwashing" of children, (without knowing the story) but say nothing of Hezbollah or the Palestinians using them -- which is well documented." - Kath

Firstly, I think I need to clarify my position. I'm not left, right, liberal or conservative, I'm a (British) born again Christian. Us British tend not to pick sides in politics, instead choosing to lament the whole process. What I'm interested in mostly is justice, the search for Christ and pointing out hypocrisy (though occasionally I unfortunately display some myself). I get annoyed at what I see as injustice and the doctrine of the American religious right. Some would call me liberal and it's fair that I lean towards liberal policy, but this is still only when it coincides with my interpretation of my faith and the message of Jesus.

I'll start by admitting that it is true, I don't know the background to these pictures that were posted by Kel at The Osterley Times. Kath has been kind enough to add a link to the original blog the images were posted on, which is a follow up post explaining the background on these images. Here is an excerpt:

"a new army unit arrived, kids were bored, went out with parents to look -- there were TWELVE photographers there -- and they egged the kids on -- the kids are low class, not educated, have never met a Lebanese, just want to live their lives, don't understand why Lebanon attacked their home, etc. -- the photographers told them "hey, your cousins in america will see you!" -- mostly foreign photographers -- so the kids, who were bored and restless and had been cooped up in bomb shelters for 5 days, took the felt markers and drew messages tonasrallah -- there were no cries of hatred toward lebanese" - Rantings of a Sandmonkey

It's an interesting post, and many others have commented on it both for and against, but I won't get into the comments. Having now read the background on these pictures, however, I am no less or more convinced of Israel's guilt.

The story is brief and can basically be summed up in this way: They were bored Israeli children, who were 'egged on' by some foreign photographers, to paint bombs in a sort of elaborately staged press opportunity.

Regardless of whether this story is true, in part or in whole, there are some points I would like to make:

1) I have no doubt that the children did not know what they were doing. I have no doubt that the little girl smiling, is having fun with no awareness of the gravity of her actions. If you check the link to Kels post, you will see that it is entitled "For They Know Not What They Do". Which is actually taken ad verbatim from the end of a line by Jesus "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" in the King James version of the New Testament (Luke 23:34).

I also made reference to the Bible in my post:

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." - Proverbs 22:6 NIV

It's pretty clear that these children are not doing this out of hate, however I was inferring that these children are being 'trained up' in the way of war and/or hatred without meaning. In fact, if you think about it, it's worse that they don't know what they are doing! Since they have no cause or purpose for doing this, they are being taught to look at bombs as some sort of fun object, and not the reality which is infrastructure and human beings, being blown apart.

2) Whether it is journalists or the Israeli Army who set up this photo-op, a large portion of guilt at least, lies with the Israeli Army. Why? Because who leaves bombs out in the street for kids to play with? It may be a war zone, but are you telling me that there was not one responsible adult or commanding army officer present who would see the dangers to the lives of these children (imagine a 'stray' Hezbollah rocket landed in the vicinity of these shells)? If this was somewhere in the UK (say Northern Ireland) there would be a public outrage, followed by an inquiry. And they say Israel is a "bulwark of democracy", "sticking up for civilization in the midst of chaos"!

If the story is true, there is no doubt in my mind blame lies with every adult present- the photographers, the army officers who left those shells unattended(?) and any parents. If not, it does not let the Israeli army off the hook. I seriously doubt those journalists just so happened to be carrying those shells around with them looking for children to do some painting.

3) I make no apologies for "going after Israel", since it is their children and their bombs in these photos. Similarly, I make no apology for mentioning Islamic terror groups in Afghanistan in the same post.

If you check out a post I made recently on Dark Side of the Light, you will find I link both images of Arab and the Israeli children. The nature of my post was satirical, however I intended to make a point, as I do with all my satire.

I find the use of children in warfare abhorrent, whether it is a state, nation, freedom fighters or terror groups. Teaching children to burn flags, paint bombs, or kill indiscriminately without ethical and moral objectives is a spiritual abuse. It removes the meaning and purpose behind the conflict and replaces it with hate and suffering.
